Tamil actor Vijay announces political party, names it ‘Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’

Actor Thalapathy Vijay from Tamil Nadu declared on Friday the creation of the political party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, emphasising his dedication to “fundamental political change” and a government free from corruption, caste, and mismanagement.

The actor revealed the noteworthy news after his fan group, Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, met last week in Chennai and decided to accept the formation of the political party.

The actor released a statement in which he stated, “We are making an application today to the EC to register our party ‘Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam’. Our goal is to contest and win the upcoming 2026 assembly elections and bring about the fundamental political change that people want.”

“Politics is not just another career for me. It is a sacred people’s work. I have been preparing myself for it for a long time. Politics is not a hobby for me. That is my deepest desire. I want to fully involve myself in it,” the actor said.

Further explaining actor Vijay’s political move, the statement further said, “You are all aware of the current political climate. Administrative malpractices and corrupt political culture on the one hand, and a divisive political culture which strives to divide our people on the lines of caste and religion on the other hand. Everyone, especially, in Tamil Nadu is yearning for a fundamental political change that can lead to a selfless, transparent, caste-free, visionary, corruption-free and efficient administration”.

The party intends to hold activities and meetings in public after receiving the Election Commission’s approval. They will introduce a flag and party emblem during these events, along with their policies, tenets, and action plans.

However, the actor declared that the party will not be backing any party in the forthcoming elections or running for office in the general elections of 2024.

Chennai Cyclone

As Cyclone Michaung approaches the coast of Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has instructed all departments and personnel to remain alert and prepared to provide emergency relief and rescue operations. Five fatalities linked to rain-related accidents have been reported in Chennai over the past few days, while Tamil Nadu has been severely hit by excessive rainfall.

airport

Eight locations have been placed under a red alert: Tirupati, Nellore, Prakasam, Bapatla, Krishna, West Godavari, Konaseema, and Kakinada. This is in preparation for the storm by Cyclone Michaung making landfall in Andhra Pradesh shortly. Meteorologists report that Cyclone Michaung touched down on the Bapatla coast of Andhra Pradesh.

According to weather forecasts, the state and neighbouring cities will see severe weather through Thursday. Getting paddy and maintaining the kharif harvest are two of the most important aspects of protecting the native crops. Here are the most recent reports regarding Tuesday’s rains in Chennai and Cyclone Michaung.

To help people and rebuild infrastructure devastated by Cyclone Michaung’s severe rains, the Tamil Nadu government has requested ₹5000 crore in temporary central assistance.

Amidst intense rains brought on by Cyclone Michaung, the Tamil Nadu government has stated that 70% of mobile networks and 80% of the electricity supply have already been restored in Chennai.

According to PTI, 29 NDRF teams have been sent to Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Puducherry to conduct rescue and relief efforts following the powerful cyclonic storm Michaung.

Chennai Airport Status

The Chennai International Airport Authority declared the airfield operational for all arrival and departure operations on Tuesday following the rainfall caused by Cyclone Michaung. Travellers and the aviation community are relieved by this timely announcement, as it allows them to continue their journeys without any obstacles.

Air traffic management would prioritise departures to get the stranded passengers out of the airport, according to the statement. The airport authority also said that there are about 1500 PAXS (passengers carried by an airline) in the terminals and 21 planes on the ground.

“F&B Concessionaire has made sure that their establishments have a sufficient supply of food.” According to the statement, all passenger amenities, including trolley, must be available, and the Chennai Airport Team has been instructed to make sure that terminals are maintained in good shape.

As storms pounded the southeast coast, Chennai Police verified the deaths of at least eight people. The predicted reduction in rainfall intensity offers a much-needed break after Cyclone Michaung devastated Chennai and the surrounding areas.

Residents in several parts of Chennai have stated that power has been restored in such regions and that there hasn’t been any rain since early Tuesday.
